This month we're reading "West with Giraffes" by Lynda Rutledge

In 1938, during the lingering Great Depression, two giraffes survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic, capturing the hearts of Americans longing for wonder. Woodrow Wilson Nickel, now 105, reflects on his unforgettable experience, a twelve-day road trip across the U.S. to deliver the giraffes to the San Diego Zoo. This emotional, historical novel, inspired by true events, weaves together real-life figures and fictional characters, including a young Dust Bowl rebel, the world’s first female zoo director, and a secretive photographer. Part adventure, part coming-of-age story, West with Giraffes explores how animals, kindness, and time shape lives.
