The Pictish Puzzle: Discovering the Story of a Forgotten People with Archaeologist Dan MacLean
Join archaeologist Dan MacLean for The Pictish Puzzle: Discovering the Story of a Forgotten People, an exploration into one of Scotland’s greatest mysteries. The Picts, known for their striking symbol stones and enigmatic presence in early medieval history, left behind tantalising clues but no written records of their own. Were they painted warriors, skilled farmers, or powerful traders? Through new archaeological discoveries, we are beginning to piece together their fascinating story.
In this talk, Dan MacLean draws on his work with the Northern Picts Project to reveal fresh insights into Pictish life, art, and society. From elite settlements and fortified sites to connections across Europe, he will shed light on how this remarkable people lived and why they eventually disappeared into the kingdom of Alba. Engaging and thought-provoking, this event offers a rare chance to see Scotland’s forgotten ancestors come vividly to life.
