Join us at Alexandra Park Food Forest on Thursday 19th February 10.30am - 12.30pm. We will help the Food Forest as they refresh their hot bed, which some of us saw in action last year.
Learning about compost: Site visit to see a hot bed propogator after a year of maturing. We'll dismantle the frame and be digging into the decomposing wood chip, which we're hoping is full of fungal life. This will be a chance to see how a hot bed is maintained and re-filled with wood chip, which is done on an annual basis. The hot bed allows the Food Forest to start seedlings earlier in the year in their polytunnel, due to the heat from the decomposing woodchip pile.
They also have a continuous-flow wormery, the castings from which are used to improve soil health in the Food Forest.
Practicalities:
As the weather is unpredictable, please dress warmly and bring waterproofs and sturdy footwear.
Teas and coffees will be provided. Please bring your own snacks if you think you will need them.
