Claire Barclay in Conversation with David Osbaldeston
Saturday 27th September, 2pm
First Floor Gallery
Glasgow Print Studio is proud to present an “In Conversation” between artists Claire Barclay and David O (David Osbaldeston) within the immersive setting of Barclay's standout exhibition ‘Kinskins’, in our first floor gallery.
Audiences will have the opportunity to hear from Claire about the work in the exhibition and the ideas and processes underpinning it which remind us how we encounter print within daily life, sensorily as well as visually, and question how we attach value to print in different forms.
Made in proximity to the print workshop one floor above, Claire’s works draw attention to the processes and rhythms involved in their making. Consciously and subconsciously objects and bodies emerge from improvised layering, cutting, masking, repetition that result in a fusing of shapes and emotions. Gestural marks and textures enhance a sense of aliveness and of interrelationships between these suggested forms.
David and Claire have a natural synergy with long held-practices that centre around sculpture and printmaking as key components. Their conversation promises to dig deep into concepts of materiality, form and ways of making.
David’s practice often draws upon properties of objecthood and materiality using methods of collage as a medium for transmission to explore spatial similarities between print and sculpture. His GPS exhibition A Pastiche of Different Techniques in 2024 was centred around the visual and psychic effect found in fast and slower methods of printmaking alongside the legacies of conceptualism and the artist as publisher.
We are delighted to announce that David’s new book work, which contains documentation of this exhibition, bound with a cover hand screen printed in the GPS workshop and published by Slimvolume will be available for view and purchase in the ground floor gallery as part of the event.
