In this beginner's paleoart workshop, we'll be looking to draw a Smilodon, perhaps the most famous of the extinct sabre-toothed cats. The workshop will take you through the practical drawing techniques necessary to draw animals realistically, friendly to total beginners and more intermediate artists alike. We'll also be delving into the science behind how artists approach reconstructions using fossil materials, modern analogues (in this case, animals like lions or tigers), inferences from the extinct animal's behaviour, and lots of imagination! This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in the crossover of science and art, palaeontology and biology enthusiasts, or just anyone who's interested in learning to draw animals realistically.
Class size will be kept small to allow for plenty of one-to-one tuition. All materials for drawing with graphite and colour pencil are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own drawing materials if preferred.
The workshop is 15+ but children over 10 can attend with an adult.
