Step into the bold, textured world of impasto portraiture—where thick strokes of oil paint bring character, depth, and energy to life. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore how to sculpt with paint using palette knives and brushes, layering vibrant color and expressive texture to create portraits that leap off the canvas.
Guided by AVA instructors, you’ll learn how to mix luminous hues, apply paint with confidence, and build compositions that capture both likeness and emotion. Bring a photo of someone meaningful to you, or work intuitively and see who emerges from your marks.
This workshop welcomes artists of all levels—whether you’re curious about oils for the first time or eager to experiment with new techniques.
