Folklore tradition speaks of a myriad of creatures, some benign, some benevolent. But it
was the malevolent ones – THE MONSTERS – that were spoken of most. Ghost stories around
campfires, frightening tales used to terrify disobedient children, epic adventures of heroes
who would be long forgotten if not for the beasts they faced. Those legends went on to
influence Western literature in the 19th century, and films of the 20th century. But this is
