Deanna Thompson is an author, speaker, and former Director of the Lutheran Center for Faith, Values, and Community and Martin E. Marty Regents Chair of Religion and the Academy at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Thompson’s writing and speaking covers on topics ranging from Martin Luther and feminism, Scriptural interpretation (Deuteronomy in particular), cancer and faith, and being the church in the digital age. When she’s not writing, speaking, or teaching, Thompson can be found hiking in a national park with her husband and two children.
“Before fall of 2008, I was living what I call my 95% ideal life. I had married my college sweetheart, found a job at a Minnesota university close to family, and was busy being a professor, spouse, and parent of two lovely children. I was getting to teach religion to undergraduates and write and speak about the legacy of sixteenth century reformer Martin Luther and the ongoing relevance of his theology for contemporary issues like feminism and white privilege. Then cancer came along and forced me to resign from my full and wonderful life.”
Deanna will discuss themes from two of her books, namely The Virtual Body of Christ in a Suffering World and Glimpsing Resurrection: Cancer, Trauma, and Ministry.
