The Issue: ZMA-225-22
Living in the peaceful community of Stonehedge Estates in Georgetown, KY has been nothing short of a dream come true. The leafy streets, rural location, and friendly neighbors make this a perfect environment to raise a family, retire, or simply enjoy life away from the city's hustle and bustle. Unfortunately, this dream is now under threat due to plans for rezoning of 68 acres adjacent to Stonehedge Estates for the construction of apartment buildings and townhomes. This proposed rezoning is deeply concerning for residents who have invested in this community, not only financially but emotionally too. Our property values, which many have relied on for financial security and future planning, are at risk of dropping significantly. According to a study by the National Association of Realtors, proximity to high-density residential zones can decrease home values by an average of 6-10%.Moreover, this change brings the anxiety of increased traffic and neighborhood congestion. Our streets, which our children safely play on, may become overwhelmed by traffic flow and become less safe. Reports from nearby communities where similar projects have been executed show a 20% increase in traffic incidents post-development, not to mention the noise, traffic, and motorist safety upon entering and exiting our community during the construction period. The introduction of large apartment buildings and townhomes will undeniably shift the character of Stonehedge Estates, known for its rural, quiet, and tight-knit community feel. High-density housing can often lead to transient populations that will indefinitely affect the safety and well-being of our neighborhood. There are better alternatives to meet housing demands in our area that don’t compromise the well-being and integrity of existing communities. We should explore options such as developing undeveloped plots away from established neighborhoods, while maintaining the beauty and peaceful atmosphere of those already established neighborhoods. Sign this petition to urge the Georgetown municipal planners and relevant stakeholders to reconsider this rezoning proposal. Protect the value, safety, and character of Stonehedge Estates. We can embrace growth without sacrificing the quality of life we've all worked so hard to build. Join us in keeping Stonehedge Estates a wonderful place to call home. The Georgetown-Scott County Planning Commission will be meeting on this proposal this Thursday, July 10th, at 6:00 pm, at the Scott County Courthouse. This is a PUBLIC HEARING and all are encouraged to attend. Please share this petition with your neighbors, and surrounding neighborhoods, that may not be on the Stonehedge Estates page, or who are unaware of this proposed zoning change. Anyone can sign the petition online, regardless of where they live, whether they have Facebook or not. Thanks for spreading the word!
PETITION UPDATE:
Hello neighbors! We are well on our way, with 57 signatures on our petition, to oppose the zoning change for phase 3 of the Woodlawn community, adjacent to Stonehedge, for the purpose of building hundreds of apartments and townhomes. Some of you received a paper in your mailbox regarding this petition, and more will receive them this evening.
Many of us are on the Stonehedge Facebook page, but many are not, so please share this information with your neighbors. The petition has also been shared with our neighbors in both The Colony and Marketplace communities. Residents of Woodlawn are aware of the proposed zoning change, strongly oppose it as well, and some are planning to attend the Planning Commission meeting Thursday, July 10th at 6:00 pm at the Scott Co. Courthouse, to show their opposition. I encourage anyone that is available to attend. Thanks to all who have signed our petition, and don’t forget to share!
