Theme: Future Proofing Fynbos
To future-proof something means to take proactive steps to ensure its resilience and longevity in the face of emerging challenges. In the context of conserving the Cape Floristic Region biodiversity hotspot, ‘futureproofing’ involves the development of adaptive strategies that will enhance and promote the ability of fynbos (and associated) ecosystems to withstand the imminent threats from ongoing global change, habitat degradation and destruction and biodiversity decline.
The Cape Floristic Region, a global biodiversity hotspot of conservation priority, faces unprecedented environmental pressures, which demand forward-thinking and innovative conservation action.
This year’s annual Fynbos Forum conference “Futureproofing Fynbos” aims to bring together scientists, land managers, policymakers and conservationists to explore solutions for conserving the Cape Floristic Region. Through knowledge building, sharing research-driven insights and collaborative discussions inspiring action, we aim to promote dialogue and develop strategies that will secure the long-term health and resilience of Fynbos (and associated) ecosystems.
By bringing together scientists, land managers, policymakers, and conservationists, this year’s annual conference will foster collaboration among a diverse range of stakeholders to contribute to conserving the biodiversity of the Cape Floristic Region.
