Ring Road (R4)

Along the R4 ring road around Ghent, a landscape of transitions unfolds. Here, infrastructure intertwines with nature, industry with housing, and planning with chance. It is a zone where the city dissolves and reshapes, where functions blur and take on new meaning.
In Ring Road (R4 ), Rembert De Prez and Elke Pannier explore this borderland in all its layers. De Prez focuses on landscape elements, accidental aesthetics, and the discrepancies that arise in transitional zones. Pannier examines the social aspect—the people who appropriate this border space, adapt to it, or are shaped by it.
Together, their work forms a growing document of the layered fusion found in this periphery. A portrait of the indeterminate, where noise is not merely background, but a common thread.
