This Electrical Awareness course provides essential knowledge to identify, assess, and manage electrical hazards on construction sites. Through practical examples and OSHA guidelines, participants will learn safe work practices, the basics of electricity, and how to use personal protective equipment effectively. Ideal for all levels, this course emphasizes hazard recognition and control to help maintain a safe work environment.
Prudent Digging
This course offers training for safe and responsible digging around buried utilities with the goal of minimizing the risks associated with digging. While engaging in both the classroom and hands-on field instruction, this awareness course has been designed for those that are new to the trade or do not have as much experience digging around utilities. By the end of the course, the students will be given the tools to safely and effectively excavate in a variety of conditions and prevent utility disruptions while promoting best practices.
Classroom Topics
• JULIE color-coding system used to mark utilities and each color’s specific meaning
• JULIE’S Law
• Reading ground conditions and assessing the site prior to excavation
• Instructors will highlight critical indicators to look for while digging.
Field Training
Hands-on exercises include:
• Recognizing and working around common underground utilities seen in the Local 196 jurisdiction.
• Instructors will demonstrate safe digging practices, identify and correct unsafe techniques
• Learning efficient digging techniques to avoid accidents and utility damage
• Identifying and learning to handle hard soil types
