The Beauty & the Terror

What do you know about short forms? Sure, there are Japanese options like haiku. But what of the Western viewpoints? Marquis, Cummings, Dickenson, Sexton, & Rimbaud are all poets who have given much to the smaller pieces of verse, spanning centuries. The Oulipo movement is an “off the wall” aspect which explores this minimalism. Join Avalanche (Ivan Rehorek) as he presents a different perspective of Western Society’s contribution to minimalist verse. Find out more about the lesser-known C19th & C20th writers and attempt some content in their form/style.

Avalanche is a poet and musician, born in Eastern Europe, and came to Adelaide as a child. Former educator, part writer, part musician, Avalanche is a slam poet who has produced his own work (called Emilys) in a nod to Dickenson’s (lack of) publication. Avalanche has been a well-known fixture of the Adelaide Poetry scene for over a decade, having written many pieces in his bespoke notebooks…
