Discover Outside - Moonrise Challenge Hike at Arroyo Hondo Preserve!

Join the Land Trust on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, from 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm for a special chance to explore Arroyo Hondo Preserve's trails at night! Normally only accessible during the daytime, we invite you to hike with us under the full moon. During this challenging 5-mile hike, we'll make a few stops to listen and look for signs of nocturnal wildlife and if we have clear skies, watch the full moon rise above Arroyo Hondo Canyon!

This route is for experienced and adventurous hikers. We will have low visibility, please bring your personal headlamp as we have limited numbers to lend. The hike is approximately 5 miles on variable terrain including creek crossings, steep elevation climbs and descents, and hiking on loose gravel. The weather is variable at the preserve, and we'll be working up a sweat, so dressing in layers is recommended. Water refills, parking, and bathrooms available at the preserve. Space is limited, reserve your spot before we're sold out!
