Come gaither n share of yourself, your learnings n laughter as we rejoice having fun with sheep fleece
Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was a beautiful crafty lady called Sue who loved nothing more than to lose time with her handsome spinning wheel, singing and rocking by the hearth, until one day, she could spin no more. Her fingers were twisted and screaming in pain, her mouth pitted and dumb, cursed by old age. She pondered and dwelled on the fate of her beloved wheel until, she found EcoArt.....Sue heartily gifted her wheel, hopfull he would wind and whir again.
The cherished spinning wheel sits pride of place, upon the countertop of the EcoArt studio. It's much admired but sits alone, unused.
It all started with many, "Ah, I wish I knew how to use one". It took Rose Petal ages, she asked everyone, "Can you use a spinning wheel?", "No, but I'd love to know how", was always the reply.
One lucky day Catherine with her glowing white halo crossed the threshhold and answered "YES"...."Might you be up for showing us", Rose Petal asked with everything crossed. Another resounding YES...such glee and joy was felt throughout the room.
Good news travelled fast, Catherine was found and others followed, those who gift fleece, those that know skirting and washing, picking and carding, roving and spinning, winding and natural dyeing.
Together we shall deepen our connection with ourselves, eachother, our heritage and nature. Let's honour Sue and the Sheep. Let's gaither!
What great value for our wellbeing, our community and adapting to the environmental crisis. And for the fleece that all too often has no value, becomes waste and buried.
This friendly group is peer led and hands on.
If you like, bring something to share, be it knowledge, tools, fleece, yarn, cake.. bring your spinner or spinning wheel if you have one or just bring your wonderful self. There's always good company, teas, infusions, coffee and biscuits. Everyone is welcome.
Suggested charitable donation of £5-10 appreciated on the day to cover costs and tools
Meet up the 3rd Tuesday of the month, except first gathering on 24th Sept. None January or August, when we rest.
There are 2 steps up with hand bars at the entrance and 12 steps down to facilities.
