Week 2: Dreams & Spirits
📅 Monday 20th – Friday 24th October

In our second week of half-term adventures, we’ll wander into dreamlike forests, light lanterns of remembrance, peek into dark fairytales, tumble into a circus of curiosities, and finally gaze up at the northern skies. These sessions invite children to experiment with vibrant materials and magical themes, weaving imagination with hands-on skills.
Monday – Studio Ghibli Inspirations
🎨 Morning (10–12:30): Ghibli-Inspired Watercolour Illustrations
Children will explore the soft, whimsical style of Studio Ghibli, using watercolours to capture gentle spirits, fantastical creatures, or dreamlike landscapes. This is about storytelling through brushstrokes — layering colour to create atmosphere and magic.
🧵 Afternoon (1:30–4): Soot Sprite Embroidery
We’ll switch to textiles, stitching tiny soot sprites in black thread onto fabric hoops. Sparkling beads will be added as the sprites’ “star snacks,” creating playful designs that are tactile, detailed, and full of character.
Tuesday – Día de los Muertos
💀 Morning (10–12:30): Sugar Skull Masks
Children will design and decorate their own sugar skull masks using vibrant alcohol ink pens. Bright patterns, bold colours, and floral motifs will celebrate the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos, focusing on joy, remembrance, and self-expression.
🕯️ Afternoon (1:30–4): Day of the Dead Lanterns
Lantern-making brings the morning’s celebration to light. Using translucent paper, colour, and decoration, children will create glowing lanterns inspired by Día de los Muertos altars and festivities — perfect for lighting up October evenings.
Wednesday – Dark Fairy Tales
🌒 Morning (10–12:30): Silhouette Paper-Cut Art
Children will learn to create dramatic silhouettes in paper, inspired by Grimm and other dark fairy tales. Castles, wolves, enchanted forests — these scenes will be layered against inky backgrounds, exploring light, shadow, and story.
🌲 Afternoon (1:30–4): Dark Collage Landscapes
The fairy tale theme continues with collage. Using ink washes, metallic accents, and textured papers, children will build eerie landscapes filled with hidden details and a touch of mystery.
Thursday – Circus of Curiosities
🎪 Morning (10–12:30): Circus Poster Art
Step into the carnival atmosphere! Children will design bold circus posters with collage, paint, and lettering, experimenting with colour and vintage poster style. The stranger the better — think curiosity, playfulness, and spectacle.
🤹 Afternoon (1:30–4): Wire & Fabric Figures
Children will sculpt small trapeze artists or circus characters from wire, covering and embellishing them with fabric, ribbons, and paint. Each figure will have its own personality — elegant, comic, or delightfully odd.
Friday – Northern Lights & Starry Skies
🌌 Morning (10–12:30): Aurora Watercolours
Children will paint sweeping skies inspired by the northern lights, using salt resist and layered washes of colour to create vibrant, shimmering effects.
⭐ Afternoon (1:30–4): Constellation Embroidery
We’ll end the week with golden stitches across the night sky. Using embroidery hoops, dark fabric, and metallic thread, children will sew constellations — bears, hunters, swans — anchoring their own piece of the universe to take home.
