Gaston County has kicked off a year-long effort to create a new plan for growth and development. Envision Gaston is a community-driven process that will establish a vision for the unincorporated areas of the County, develop a new land use strategy, and create an actionable plan for the future.
The County will seek community feedback throughout the planning process, with the first round of public engagement efforts underway. An online survey and interactive map are available on Envision Gaston (
http://www.envisiongaston.com/). The community is also encouraged to attend one of three identical community workshops.

The Envision Gaston Comprehensive Plan will help guide future development and establish a coordinated vision and specific objectives for topics such as housing, economic development, transportation, infrastructure, public services, recreation, and natural resources. The County also is working on an update to its unified development ordinance and zoning map.
“Our community's input is vital for Gaston's future," says Jamie Kanburoglu, Director of Planning and Zoning for Gaston County. "Residents, along with those who work or recreate in Gaston County, are encouraged to visit the project website to complete the online survey and mark their thoughts on the interactive map. We also encourage everyone to attend the upcoming workshops to share their ideas and engage with the Envision Gaston initiative. We are excited to collaborate with as many community members as possible during this journey."
Community engagement will continue through Spring 2026, so the public can provide input on the plan recommendations. Envision Gaston is expected to be completed next summer, and once adopted, it will be used to guide decisions related to growth, development, and other recommendations in the plan.
