12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose
ETC is pleased to announce auditions for our upcoming production of TWELVE ANGRY MEN by Reginald Rose. All roles are open. Auditions will be held at ETC, 2317 Mechanic in Galveston. Auditions will begin at 7:00pm. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
“In a tiny, sweltering room, twelve jurors sit around a table to decide the fate of a 19-year-old boy who has been charged with the murder of his father in what seems to be an open and shut case. When push comes to shove, one juror stands in defiance against the r3est and dissents, arguing for the possibility of the boy’s innocence. One by one each juror is burdened with memories and prejudice that may taint their perspective. The fate of one boy hangs in the balance as the clock ticks and tensions smolder.”
Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, August 17. Rehearsals are held Sunday through Thursday evenings at 7:00pm. Performances begin on September 19 and continue through October 4th. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm. Sunday matinees are at 2:30pm. All cast members will receive a stipend at the end of the run.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Foreman – (30 – 60) He is a high school assistant football coach. He is a small, petty man who is impressed with the authority he has and handles himself quite formally.
Juror Number Two – (18 – 30’s) Bank clerk. He is a meek, hesitant man who finds it difficult to maintain any opinions of his own.
Juror Number Three – (40’s – 60’s) Head of a messenger service. He is a very strong, very forceful, extremely opinionated man within whom can be detected a streak of sadism.
Juror Number Four – (30 – 50) Stockbroker He seems to be a man of wealth and position, and a practiced speaker who always presents himself well.
Juror Number Five – (20’s) Mechanic He’s a naïve, very frightened young man who takes his obligations in this case very seriously, but who finds it difficult to speak up when his elders have the floor.
Juror Number Six – (40 – 60) Housepainter He is an honest but dull-witted man who comes upon his decisions slowly and carefully.
Juror Number Seven – (20-50) Salesman He is a loud, flashy, glad-handed salesman type who has more important to do than sit on a jury.
Juror Number Eight – (20 – 50) Architect He’s a quiet, thoughtful, gentle man – a man who sees all sides of every question and constantly seeks the truth.
Juror Number Nine – (60’s +) Retired He is a mild, gentle old man long defeated by life, and now merely waiting to die.
Juror Number Ten – (40’s +) Garage Owner He’s an angry, bitter, bigoted – a man who antagonizes almost on sight and who places no values on any human life except his own.
Juror Number Eleven – ( 40’s +) Watchmaker He’s a refugee from Europe; he speaks with an accent and is ashamed, humble, almost subservient to the people around him.
Juror Number Twelve – (20 – 40) Advertising man He’s a slick, bright advertising man who thinks of human beings in terms of percentages, graphs, and polls, and has no real understanding of people.
Guard – Very small part. He can be any age.
