About the event

Active / Passive Vol. 7 - WORKSHOP - Storytelling!
Storytelling!
Sunday August 10th, 10AM
Yellowhouse Art Centre 2517 Sturdies Bay Road

A small group workshop looking at all the ways we can tell our stories

Join Rosemary Georgeson in a participatory workshop that looks at novel and personal ways of telling stories from one’s own culture. In this workshop we will explore some of the stories that we carry in our bodies, stories that could be generations old. We will gently play with this through movement and sound.

All ages
This workshop is by donation but requires a ticket.

This event is presented on the unceded stolen traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwitslum and other Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island.

This site is fully wheelchair accessible. The grounds are natural and the terrain somewhat rough. The workshop will be taking place outdoors with access to wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. Chairs will be available.

Workshop Facilitator: Rosemary Georgeson

I was born and raised in the commercial fishing industry, spending the first half of my life fishing around Galiano Island and the Salish Sea, sometimes as far as Prince Rupert. Since leaving the industry, I've worked in the arts community as a writer, storyteller and researcher. Recognized in 2009 by the Vancouver Mayor's award for emerging artist and in 2014 as the Vancouver Public Library's Storyteller in Residence, my work is deeply rooted in my family history from Galiano Island.

Storytelling! Is part of Active / Passive Vol. 7, a festival presented on the unceded stolen traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwitslum and other Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island.
