The Lao Tizer Band performs on September 5 at Santa Fe College
The Lao Tizer Band, a “Jazz Group of the Year” nominee, performs on Friday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Santa Fe College’s Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall, 3000 NW 83rd Street in Gainesville.
The band is releasing their new album and video, AMPLIFY.
The Lao Tizer Band performs a variety of styles with all-stars including:
Lao Tizer: a former “Best New Jazz Artist nominee on piano and keys
Elliott Yamin: American Idol star on vocals
Danny Janklow: sax and flute
Cheikh N’Doye: Senegalese bassist
Gene Coye: GRAMMY-winning drummer
The new album includes nine original songs with five vocals and four instrumentals.
“A big part of the concept for Amplify is to cross over,” said Tizer. “It’s not really a ‘jazz’ record but it definitely has jazz elements, no question.”
The album features American Idol start Elliott Yamin for vocals.
“Elliott’s first album had that platinum hit single ‘Wait For You’,” Tizer added. “He’s very much a throwback to a blue-eyed soul kind of vibe and it was amazing to bring him into the band.”
Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for senior/military, $10 for students and free admission for Santa Fe students/staff with ID.
