THE COLOR PURPLE – THE MUSICAL

SEEKING A CAST OF STRONG SINGERS, ACTORS & MOVERS:
Principal Roles Include:
• Celie – Mezzo, resilient, heartful, transformative
• Shug Avery – Alto/Mezzo, charismatic blues singer with deep soul
• Mister (Albert) – Baritone, emotionally complex antagonist
• Sofia – Alto, bold, brassy, powerful presence
• Harpo – Tenor/Baritone, sweet-natured, comedic timing
• Nettie – Soprano, intelligent, strong-willed, Celie’s sister
• Featured roles: Church Ladies, Young Celie, Young Nettie, Squeak, Preacher, Ensemble of singers/dancers
AUDITION DATES:
Sunday and Monday, June 22-23rd
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Location: Star Center Theatre – 11 NE 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, FL
Callbacks (if needed): Tuesday, June 24 @ 7:00 PM
WHAT TO PREPARE:
• 32 bars of a gospel, R&B, or musical theatre song that best showcases your vocal ability.
(Please bring sheet music. No a cappella auditions.) Pianist provided.
• Be prepared to read from the script and learn a brief movement combination.
• Bring a headshot/resume if available, and come dressed to move.
REHEARSALS:
Tentative Rehearsals begin Monday, June 30, running Mon/Wed 7:00–9:30 PM and Sat 1:00–5:00 PM
Tech/Dress Week: Sept 1–4
PERFORMANCE RUN:
September 5 – 28, 2025
Fridays–Sundays (plus possible Thursday shows)

A soul-stirring, triumphant musical about hope, healing, and the power of sisterhood, The Color Purple follows the journey of Celie, a Black woman in the American South who finds her voice and identity against all odds.
Filled with joyous music, powerful storytelling, and unforgettable characters, this show celebrates resilience, love, and liberation.
