Treatment of Pain Within a Five Element Context

This course will describe and demonstrate treatment of various types of musculoskeletal pain, and discuss how those treatments may be integrated into a broader Five Element approach.

In general, musculoskeletal pain usually involves the primary channels, the sinew channels, and/or the luo channels; and may frequently be associated with spinal nerve radiculopathy as well. We will review channel pathways and discuss differentiation of the channel(s) involved according to signs and symptoms, and review dermatomes and their relationship to pain in the extremities. We will then describe specific treatment techniques appropriate to the channel pathology present, and there will be a live demo of primary channel, sinew channel, and dermatome-based treatments. We will discuss frequency of treatment and integration of pain protocols into ongoing Five Element acupuncture treatment.
