About the event

Trish Hopkinson, Lisa Connors & The Rock Canyon Poets
ABOUT TRISH HOPKINSON — Trish Hopkinson is a poet and literary arts advocate. You can find her online at SelfishPoet.com and in western Colorado. Hopkinson is co-founder and director of Rock Canyon Poets since 2014, a regional poetry group with over 50 members, annual members retreat, monthly reading series, and two anthologies published annually from 2014 – 2020: Orogeny, a collection of Rock Canyon Poets work; and Inspired, a collection from the community poetry writing workshop she taught with support from Utah Humanities. She co-founded Provo Poetry in 2015 to feature Utah poets in Poemball vending machines with three permanent locations in Provo and Salt Lake City. Provo Poetry and Rock Canyon Poets have been featured on KSL, KRCL, 15 Bytes, Slug Magazine, The Daily Herald, and City Weekly among others. In addition, Hopkinson is a board member of the International Women’s Writing Guild. Her poetry has been published in several magazines and journals, including Sugar House Review, Glass Poetry Press, and The Penn Review. Hopkinson’s most recent full length book A Godless Ascends is forthcoming from Lithic Press in March 2024. Her fourth chapbook Almost Famous was published by Yavanika Press in 2019 and her third chapbook Footnote was published by Lithic Press in 2017. Hopkinson happily answers to labels such as atheist, feminist, and empty nester; and enjoys traveling, live music, wine tasting, and craft beer.

ABOUT LISA WENCE CONNORS — Lisa Wence Connors retired from the United States Army. After successfully raising a daughter, she now enjoys life as a libertine and woman about town. She divides her time between Fruita CO, Salt Lake City UT, and the open road. Her work has been published in Colorado Journeys, Bluestem Literary Journal, and Gyroscope Review.

ABOUT THE ROCK CANYON POETS — Co-founded by Bonnie Shiffler-Olsen and Trish Hopkinson in January, 2015, Rock Canyon Poets is a regional poetry group boasting a diverse membership, ranging from 18 to 70+ years in age with many backgrounds–including literary journal founders, editors, ex-military, business professionals, a playwright, and a periodontist. Individually, they have received several awards and been published in magazines, anthologies, journals, chapbooks, and full-length books of poetry. Rock Canyon Poets offer poetry with the tactile clarity of tin-can messages through fuzzy strings to the ears of an audience. These poems are tumbleweeds in semi-truck grills. They get stuck in your teeth, build bridges of spun sugar, and make it possible to mount a camel without a sturdy ladder.
