This tour includes the highest green lane in England that once served the regions lead mine industry; it is not uncommon for there to be snow on the tops early spring and late autumn. The North Pennines was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1988 for its moorland scenery, the product of centuries of farming and lead-mining.

At almost 2,000 square kilometres (770 sq mi) it is the second largest of the AONB in the United Kingdom. A tour with a blend of terrain and scenery suitable for four-wheel drive vehicles with road based tyres.

This tour is in keeping with our relaxed and scenic tours on clear days with rolling views over the North Pennines and Durham Dales. This tour usually starts and finishes in the Durham Dales market town of Stanhope
