Welcome our guest speaker: Young Kim ~ VAGF Dir. of Membership, Acclaimed Painter, & Award-Winning Photographer
Topic: "How to Reproduce Your Artworks (and Stretch Canvas)"
Young Kim discovered his love of art during elementary school in South Korea, but was discouraged from pursuing an art career. Decades later, he reconnected with painting as a hobby.
Kim is a self-taught artist, influenced by John Singer Sargent and Egon Schiele. He immersed himself in his art practice, learning from YouTube tutorials and making the most of the time he had while working from home during the pandemic.
In July 2023, Sparrow Gallery in Denison invited Kim to showcase his work, marking the beginning of his professional art career. Soon after, he joined art guilds in Prosper and Frisco, connecting and learning with fellow artists.
Today, he creates art using various media, including acrylics, paper collage, ink, and traditional oil paints on paper, wood panels, and canvas. He often makes his own reproductions – handling the photography, printing, and canvas-stretching himself.
