Geology Hike & Talk – Shawnee State Park

Join geologists Erika Danielsen and Mindy Thomas for a hike in the heart of the rugged, forested hills of Shawnee State Forest. Hikers will learn about the area’s geologic and natural history, including its location on the Appalachian Plateau and the geologic forces that created the regional hill country. Park Naturalist Jenny Richards will join the group to discuss the flora and fauna and cultural legacy of “Ohio’s Little Smokies.”

Participants should meet at the Shawnee State Park Nature Center(Lat/Long: 38.73237704567739, -83.18724587459916), located below the Turkey Creek Lake Dam, and dress appropriately for this hike. Hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy hiking boots, bring hiking/walking sticks, and have plenty of water and snacks. Free and open to all ages.
