Deepotsava or the Festival of Lights is an annual Hindu festival celebrated in the month of Kartika (October–November) commemorating Damodara-lila the childhood pastime of Lord Krishna. Devotees offer lamps and participate in elaborate rituals often including special aartis (devotional songs) and the lighting of one lakh (one hundred thousand) lamps to honor Krishna and signify the triumph of light over darkness.
