Support Group and social activities planned
Pride Place of Belonging, the LGBTQIA+ ministry of Niles Discovery Church, is restarting in July. The Pride Place of Belonging organizers are planning monthly gatherings on the third Sunday of the month, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church.
The first hour will be a support group for members of the LGBTQIA+ community, run by Pastor Jeff (with Cindy Sojourner substituting when Pastor Jeff is away). The support group will be a place to celebrate achievements and support one another with life’s struggles. It will include a time for check-in and to dig into any issues that need some extra time from the group. The support group will meet in Room 3.
The second hour will be some sort of social function for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their families and allies. It will typically include food and will take place in the fellowship hall (except for the August gathering, when, because of the flea market, the second hour will be held in the sanctuary and room 1). July’s social activity will be a potluck picnic on the patio
First conceived almost two years ago, Pride Place of Belonging began to offer a safe, welcoming space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community in the Tri-Cities without fear of judgment or proselytizing. Even though Fremont is the fourth biggest city in the Bay Area, there isn’t a queer-friendly space here. Niles Discovery Church seeks to change that.
You can help support Pride Place of Belonging by sharing this information with your friends and neighbors who are queer, but contacting Cindy Sojourner about providing food, by making a special contribution for Pride Place of Belonging, and by praying for this open and affirming ministry.
