🚨🚨🚨 STAR PARTY ALERT!! 🚨🚨🚨

Hello friends! Sorry, meant to get this out yesterday - the day got away from me...
Well, we struck out again! Unfortunately, the clouds and rain decided to dominate this past Sat's star party on 07.26, so we had to cancel. But - we've another one this coming Sat, 08.02, starting at 9:00pm at the Stephen F. Wessling Observatory, hosted by The Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers. (Third time's a charm right? 😁)
(*** Please note the earlier start time for this upcoming date ***).
Sunset for Aug 2 is at 9:06pm, and we'll be highlighting the summer constellations, as well as having an "Astronomer's Choice" viewing night (each club member will have their scope on their favorite night-sky object for this time of year!)
First Quarter Moon is the night before (Aug 1), so we'll have a great view of Luna on Sat. (moonset is just after midnight), along with other various summertime night sky objects.
And, we'll have our long-time visitor favorite, "The Constellation Tour" for Aug, highlighting the late-summer constellations!
We'll be opening the doors to the Kropscott Farm Science Building for visitor sign-ins a little before 9:00pm, and observing the night sky till around 11:30pm, as long as people are there, and the skies are clear.
(** NOTE ** - - Please stop by the Science Building *FIRST* to sign in before heading over to the observatory).
Saturday's forecast currently is a sunny day, and mostly clear for the evening. (Unfortunately, it changed quite drastically this past week for last Sat's event, so hopefully this time it stays true! 🤞). Temps for Sat night will be in the low- to mid-60's.
*** PLEASE NOTE: Observatory viewing is subject to cancellation due to cloudy skies/rain. However, on occasion, we'll have an inside program if there is inclement weather.
As always, we'll be monitoring the forecast as the week progresses. (Any updates or changes will be noted in the "Discussion" tab of the event here, should observing plans be called off).
We encourage our visitors - and club members - who may have their own equipment (telescopes and/or binoculars) to bring their setups, and share your own favorite night sky objects with everyone! 🔭
Admission for the evening is:
Adults - $5.00
17 and younger - $2.00
Kids under five - FREE
(All proceeds go toward the maintenance and improvement of the Wessling Observatory and Kropscott Farm property).
