🚨🚨🚨 STAR PARTY ALERT!! 🚨🚨🚨
** Saturday, Sept 20, 2025 - - 7:30pm ~ 11:00am
Hi folks - Hope everyone had a great weekend!
All of us at the S.F. Wessling Observatory had a wonderful evening last night, as the skies cleared from an earlier cloudy day, giving us fantastic views of Saturn, The Andromeda Galaxy, a few star clusters, and colorful stars!
Thanks to all that came out to observe the heavens with us - couples, families, regulars, and new folks. And special thanks to the awesome students from Grant Middle School, and their teacher, Mr. Nelson - We loved having you there - Go Tigers!! 🐅
Although we only have two more star parties left this season, we hope to see everyone again!
Which brings us to announcing our next public star party, this next Sat. 09.20, starting at 7:30pm at the Stephen F. Wessling Observatory, hosted by The Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers!
(*** Please note the earlier start time for our Sept and Oct observing events!)
Sunset on 09.20 is about 7:45pm. "New Moon" phase is the following night, so we'll have nice, dark skies all evening.
We'll be focusing our viewing on The Andromeda Galaxy, our nearest galactic neighbor - 2.5 million light years away from our Milky Way galaxy, and containing roughly 1 trillion stars (compared to our own galaxy's stellar population of 100-400 billion stars)!
We'll also be viewing Saturn again for those that missed it last night (or anyone needing another viewing fix of the great Ringed Planet!), plus other galaxies, star clusters and nebulae.
And, our regular "Constellation Tour" for Sept, highlighting the early-fall constellations.
The Kropscott Farm Science Building doors will be open for visitor sign-ins a little before 7:30pm, with night sky observing till around 11:00pm, as long as people are there, and the skies are clear.
(** NOTE ** - - Please stop by the Science Building *FIRST* to sign in before heading over to the observatory).
Currently, Saturday's forecast is showing a partly cloudy day, 20-40% chance of any precipitation, and lows in the 60's. As always, we'll be monitoring the forecast as the week progresses and keep you updated here. Any updates or changes will be posted in the "Discussion" tab of the event here, should observing plans be called off.
*** PLEASE NOTE: Observatory viewing is subject to cancellation due to cloudy skies/rain. However, on occasion, we'll have an inside program if there is inclement weather.
Club members and visitors are always welcome to bring their own equipment if they have any (telescopes and/or binoculars) to get help with setting up, how to use their equipment, observing tips, and sharing their favorite night sky objects with everyone! 🔭
Admission for the evening is:
Adults - $5.00
17 and younger - $2.00
Kids under five - FREE
(All proceeds go toward the maintenance and improvement of the Wessling Observatory and Kropscott Farm property).
The Dark Sky Astronomers team look forward to viewing the night sky with you on Sat. Sept 20!
Until then...
Clear Skies! 🔭🌑🪐✨
