About the event

The Cross Eyed Cats
Duke of George presents
The Cross Eyed Cats

The Cross Eyed Cats hail from Fremantle (mainly), Western Australia, and have been playing some Bloody Good Blues for years.

The Cap’n – Glenn Carpenter – looms large with his voice, guitar, and a pedal board so big it has a mezzanine floor for overdrives. Partial to a chat, he sings the Cats’ songs in a style some say is reminiscent of a bullfrog sippin’ Kentucky whisky. Character? I should coco!

To the right of The Cap’n is Sweetlips Fitzpatrick. Grinding, prowling and bending the draw, his affinity with a much travelled and world-weary Fender Junior Blues is legendary. He challenges the capabilities of the harmonica with an ever-cheery demeanour and a collection of smoothly stylish shirts. Don't look away or you’ll miss him wrangling his Pacifica slide guitar. Fearless in his pursuit of a good swell and a tasty suitcase, he may

just be evolving into the digital age……

Patrolling the low end of town is The Pumpkin. How he came by that particular label has long since been lost in the swirling mists of Cats folklore. He delivers the band’s heartbeat with a simple, no-frills approach, in the style of a latter-day Wyatt Earp contemplating his options at the O.K. Corral. True to the code of all blues bass-men, he has yet to change the strings on his Fender.

On the tubs and dropping the average age of the band by some 30 years, is Oskar Johns Carpenter – WES, the Work Experience Student. Intent on hitting things hard and generally making a din, his youthful good looks and perfect skin tone is a breath of fresh air through the elderly rhythm section. He gives a Nu Blues vibe to the Cats and they look forward to the day he’s old enough to not to need a note from his dad when he can’t get to rehearsal.

Steadfast in their unwavering commitment to having a Great Time and playing Bloody Good Blues, The Cross Eyed Cats set list includes about half of their own creation, about a third are creative interpretations of old blues standards and about one sixth (do the maths) are fair and square covers of tunes the boys love.

Da Cats are always looking for a Bloody Good Bluesy time.

Doors 6 pm, Band at 7.30 pm
