For The Love of Local Presenter Amera Striegel
Monday, November 3 | 7:00 p.m.
St. John United Church of Christ, 1010 S. Park Blvd, Freeport, IL
Join Amera Striegel, a local food advocate, to discover the rich and diverse availability of local food in our area! In this presentation we will dissect the meaning of "Shop Local" into 4 fundamental pieces: 1. Defining local, 2. The economic & environmental impact of shopping local, 3. The benefits to personal & community health, and 4. Discussing the abundance of our local food access, and actions we can take to shift our current community food model to a more sustainable one.
Alice Waters, a chef and restaurateur, says “I know once people get connected to real food, they never change back.” For the Love of Local is more than a tagline, it is a mission to educate, empower, and support each individual in our community-starting with access to Earth-honoring, human-nourishing, real food produced close to home.
Amera is a local food advocate who wears many hats- Manager of and vendor at the Stephenson County Farmers Market, co-founder of Full Circle Cafe and Collective (a locally sourced and organic Cafe located in the Freeport Public Library), as well as a pick-up location and vendor for Jo Daviess Local Food Collective, an online farmers market and grocery store. She sells her sourdough baked goods and ferments as Faith Over Fear Bakery. She is motivated by health- health of our bodies, our soil, our communities, but mostly our interpersonal and ecological relationships.
