Nick’s Trout Tournament

Choctawhatchee Bay, Freeport, Florida
If you’ve ever fished the waters of Choctawhatchee Bay, you already know—it’s one of the top inshore fishing spots in the state. From speckled trout to monster redfish, these waters are loaded. And come springtime, things really start to heat up. The tides are just right, bait fish are moving, and the bite is on.
For over 50 years, fishermen have come from all over to test their skills in this bay. Just down the road in Destin, the world-famous Fishing Rodeo draws crowds every year—but over here in Freeport, it’s more laid-back and local, where bragging rights matter just as much as prize money.
That’s where Nick’s Trout Tournament comes in. Hosted by Nick’s Seafood Restaurant—an old-school fish camp favorite—you’ll find cold beer, fresh seafood, and some of the best anglers around. Whether you’re chasing your first tournament trophy or looking to edge out your buddy from last year, this is your shot.

Rules:
Contests may enter the tournament anytime, but the entry fee must be paid prior to scoring fish. Entry fee to be paid at Nick’s Seafood Restaurant 7585 Hwy 20 West Freeport Fl 32439, or by phone at 850-835-2222.
Species:
Speckle Trout- must be a minimum of 15” but cannot exceed 24” .
Red fish- must be a minimum of 18” but cannot exceed 27”.
All fish must be fresh and properly iced.
Any fish in poor condition will be disqualified. All fish brought to weigh in are subject to the judge’s discretion.
Participants must follow the rules and regulations of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission.
Live fish will be released.
Weigh in Times:
Weigh in at Nick’s Seafood Restaurant
Wednesday through Sunday:11:00 am – 8:00 pm.
Monday and Tuesday weigh in times by appointment only.
All fish must be caught in the Choctawhatchee Bay or estuaries thereof (Brooks Bridge to Peach Creek)
Divisions:
Andy Lindsey Big Fish
One fish 15” or larger but cannot exceed 24”.
Brad Burnette Kids Division
12 years and under- One fish, larger than 15” but cannot exceed 24”.
Zac Whiddon Best 10 (Additional $20.00 entry fee)
Total weight of 10 speckle trout 15” or larger but cannot exceed 19”.
Max of 3 fish per day may be weighed in.
Hammer Hicks Redfish Division (Additional $20.00 entry fee)
all ages
Total weight of 2 redfish 18”-27”
Only one fish per day per angler may be weighed in.
Note: Anglers may upgrade their total weight during the tournament by swapping out their lightest fish for a heavier one.
Pay Out:
100% pay out of total entry fee. Payouts guaranteed with a minimum of 50 Participants.
Andy Lindsey Division:
1st place 50% of total entry fee.
2nd place 30% of total entry fee.
3rd place 20% total entry fee.
Brad Burnette Division Kids Division:
1st through 5th place prizes and trophies awarded.
Zac Whiddon Division (Additional $20.00 entry fee):
1st place $500.00
2nd place $300.00
3rd place 200.00
Hammer Hicks Division (Additional $20.00 entry fee):
1st place 500.00
2nd place $300.00
3rd place 200.00
