Beginner Class, Week 11
Peacock Elk Hair Caddis. The Peacock Elk Hair Caddis is a dry fly that imitates the adult caddisfly, particularly during the hatch when these insects are floating on the surface or struggling to take flight. Its elk hair wing creates a lifelike silhouette, while the peacock herl body adds an iridescent flash that mimics the natural shimmer of a caddis. This fly attracts fish with its realistic presentation and is especially effective during evening hatches or in riffles where caddis are most active. It should be fished with a natural drift, often targeting rising fish in slow-moving currents or just below faster water.
