Passamaquoddy Language Keeper Dwayne Tomah, COBALT/Team Zostera dive team, artists and musical guests lead a joyful celebration of Casco Bay’s superhero species of seagrass. Known locally as eelgrass, to scientists it is called Zostera marina and for thousands of years the Passamaquoddy people referred to this species as supeqi-pskihq. Join us to not just learn how to pronounce it, but to actually become a seagrass meadow.
This one is a must-see and will be unforgettable! You will dive into the wild and wondrous world of seagrass meadows in this participatory performance that brings science, music, movement, and storytelling together on stage. Audience members will become part of a living seagrass ecosystem—embodying the interconnected species that depend on this vital habitat in Casco Bay. With humor, heart and hands-on engagement, the evening will offer not just insight into this sacred coastal landscape, but clear, empowering steps for how we can help restore and protect it.
An immersive environmental performance led by Glenn Page COBALT Executive Director (Collaborative for Bioregional Action Learning & Transformation) as well as Board members Paul Anderson - former Director of Maine Sea Grant and former ED of Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries, Tara Jenkins, CEO/President of Conscious Revolution and Tessa Peixoto COBALT Fellow. FREE & open to the public. Advance registration encouraged.
Reserve your free ticket and support COBALT's efforts to research and restore seagrass meadows in Casco Bay with a donation during registration!
