transVOCALE 2025 // Naghash Ensemble (ARM)

Das Naghash Ensemble verbindet die Spiritualität armenischer Volksmusik mit Neuer Klassik und der Energie von Jazz und Rock. Drei klassische Sängerinnen und vier virtuose Instrumentalisten an Duduk, Oud, Dhol und Flügel spielen neue Musik, die auf den Texten des mittelalterlichen Dichters und Priesters Mkrtich Naghash basiert. Der armenisch-amerikanischen Komponist John Hodian hat diese Gedichte über das Leben als Fremder im Exil, aber auch über Hoffnung, Zuversicht und die Beziehung des Menschen zu Gott vertont und zu neuem Leben erweckt.

Zespół Naghash łączy duchowość armeńskiej muzyki ludowej z nową klasyką oraz jazzową i rockową energią. Trzy śpiewaczki klasyczne oraz czterech wirtuozów grających na duduku, udzie, dholu i fortepianie wykonują nową muzykę opartą na tekstach średniowiecznego poety i kapłana Mkrticza Nagasza. Armeńsko-amerykański kompozytor John Hodian skomponował muzykę do tych wierszy o życiu wygnańca, ale także o nadziei, ufności i relacji człowieka z Bogiem, nadając im nowe życie.

The Naghash Ensemble combines the spirituality of Armenian folk music with elements of the new classical genre and the energy of jazz and rock. The three classical singers and four talented instrumentalists playing the duduk, oud, fhol and piano perform new music based on the texts written by the medieval poet and priest Mkrtich Naghash. By setting them to music, the Armenian-American composer John Hodian has breathed new life into Naghash’s poems, which not only describe life in exile but also tell a tale of hope, trust and a person’s relationship with God.
