What’s it like to journey through the streets of Frankfurt through the lens of José Rizal—the mind who sparked the first anti-colonial revolution in Southeast Asia?
José on the Go: A Heritage Walking Tour with Ambeth Ocampo—leading Filipino public historian, author, and academic—invites us to a historic exploration-slash-literary gossip session following the footsteps of Rizal, the Philippines' national hero, during his time in the city of Frankfurt.
A public intellectual known for making history more accessible through his writings on Philippine art and history, Ambeth is the perfect companion for discovering where Rizal visited, hearing stories that bring his stay to life, and gaining a deeper understanding of how Frankfurt shaped one of the Philippines' greatest minds.
Rizal visited Frankfurt in 1886 and had a pivotal experience in Germany, including the printing of Noli Me Tángere in Berlin. To this day, remnants of his legacy remain in parts of Germany and Europe. Walk through iconic spots and explore the landmarks that captured Rizal's sharp mind—from Gutenbergplatz and Goetheplatz, to Städel Museum and Liebieghaus.
Whether you are a Pinoy in Europe, a history geek, an academic, a reader, or simply interested in knowing the man who inspired the Philippine revolution, this special walking tour is for you!
