Presenting An Educational Workshop from the Judge’s Perspective with Bonnie Hornfisher, AKC Obedience and Rally Judge
Bonnie Hornfisher is a well respected AKC Obedience and Rally Judge, this seminar is designed to give insight into Rally exercises and how they are Judged.
The workshop opens with an overview of general AKC Rally scoreable deductions. What separates points deducted from a 10-point incorrect performance (IP). To follow with a discussion of the principal parts of Rally signs, starting with Novice/Advanced signs, and graduating to Excellent/Masters. Focusing on those signs that frequently lose points including IPs. Throughout the day working spots will have several opportunities to work on short sequences of Rally exercises with judging feedback. Participants should leave this workshop able to distinguish between a perfect performance, minor deductions, and an IP, Also, a better understanding of when and how to perform a ‘Retry.’
BIO: Bonnie began her dog training journey at the age of 13, by attending a community obedience class with the family dog. That led to joining 4-H and earning her first AKC obedience title. Since then, she has titled dogs in obedience, rally, and agility, been active in several therapy dog groups and spent years instructing dog obedience. In 2010, Bonnie became an AKC obedience judge and in 2013 a rally judge.
Over the years she has lived in four states (Michigan, Colorado, Iowa, and Tennessee). At each stop, she joined dog clubs, met wonderful training friends, and is a current instructor and the Training Director at Oak Ridge Kennel Club
Besides dogs, Bonnie shares her life with husband, Russ, also an obedience and rally judge. Initially they purchased golden retrievers from a well-respected AKC breeder. Since 1998, they have adopted and trained dogs that were residing in shelters, placed with rescue groups, or found on the street. Their current companions are a ‘Toller’ rescue and a Lab mix.
