Friday, August 8th at 7 PM – Centennial Park – Free Admission + Free Popcorn!
It’s hard to believe, but summer is starting to wind down—and so is our Movies in the Park series!
On Friday, August 8th, we’re wrapping things up with one of the most iconic animated films of the late 90s: Pokémon: The First Movie.
If you grew up trading Pokémon cards on the playground, arguing over the best starter (Charmander, obviously), or battling friends on your old Game Boy Colour, this movie probably holds a special place in your heart. And if your kids are the ones now obsessed with Pikachu and Pokémon Go, this is the perfect chance to share the original film that started it all.
The story follows Ash Ketchum, Pikachu, and their friends as they receive a mysterious invitation from the world’s greatest Pokémon trainer. What they don’t realize is that the invitation comes from Mewtwo—a genetically-engineered Pokémon created from the DNA of the ancient Pokémon, Mew.
Mewtwo isn’t just powerful—he’s angry, confused, and out to prove that no human or Pokémon is stronger than him.
What unfolds is one of the greatest Pokémon stories ever told. It also features one of the most memorable scenes in animated movie history (we won’t spoil it here—but bring tissues just in case).
So grab your lawn chairs, pack a blanket, and bring the whole family to Centennial Park.
Enbridge will once again be providing free popcorn—because what’s a movie without popcorn?
Whether you’re introducing your kids to the world of Pokémon for the first time or reliving some nostalgia from your own childhood, this is the perfect way to close out summer with one last night of outdoor fun.
