Mothing & Blacklight Monitoring - BioBlitz 2025

Witness the secret nightlife of Little River Canyon Preserve!

A great way to see and document the insects around us is by attracting them with blacklights! Join our bug experts for this family friendly nighttime event at the Little River Falls at 8pm.

There will be a guided, nighttime hike from the Little River Canyon Center to the Little River Falls, starting at 7:30 PM. Return Shuttles back to the Canyon Center depart at 9:00, 9:30, and 10:00 PM.

Come join us for a full weekend of Bio Blitzing in the Little River National Preserve.

Friday, May 30
- 10:00 AM: Guided hike on Powell Trail
- 1:00 PM: Guided hike on Beaver Pond Trail
- 6:00 PM: Special presentation by Executive Director of Alabama Audubon Dr. Scot Duncan.
- 7:30 PM: Guided night hike to Little River Falls
- 8:15 PM: Mothing and Black Lighting at Little River Falls.
Saturday, May 31
- 7:00 AM: Birding at Canyon Mouth Park
- 10:00 AM: Snorkel survey at Canyon Mouth Park.
