On July 15, 2025, Tropical Lodge #56 will be performing a Lodge of Discussion. The purpose of a Lodge of Discussion is to encourage and enable the Lodge Brothers to set their own course for the future. To arrive upon a concise action plan to accomplish the goals selected by the Lodge. To enable the members of the Lodge to play a larger role in the future of the Lodge.
Prior to the opening of the Lodge a series of questions will be provided to each of you in the dining room. No names are to be placed on the answer sheets. The topics for consideration will therefore be anonymous. The Answers are not subject to judgement or discussion when presented by the facilitator, which would be me.
When all of the suggested action items are communicated, we will get to work. For example, there may be 30 different action items suggested by the craft. By a vote we will narrow that down to a manageable number that the Lodge chooses to adopt. At the end of the evening, we may have 4 action items and possible alternate items should there be changes in what we can or want to accomplish.
The rules are very simple: 1) Attend so your voice can be heard. 2)
Be open minded consider everything on its own merits. 3) Be prepared to volunteer some time for committee meetings at the committee’s discretion to successfully turn the ideas into accomplishments. 4) Criticism of an idea is not necessary and won’t be accepted.
The will of the Lodge will find the path to follow. Everyone is encouraged to voice their opinions as we select our action items.
The DDGM and the WM are not allowed to comment on or suggest a preferred course of action. (This is my favorite rule). They will of course have some comments at the close of the evening. I am grateful to R:.W:. Rivera and W:. Knafel for requesting and encouraging the Lodge of Discussion for Tropical Lodge No. 56.
