Ramon Chirinos is considered one of the most influential Latin American masters of the 20th century. In his work, Chirinos blends native tradition and European influences to produce distinctive masterpieces. Chirino’s paintings have a distinctive touch and style. From his early figurative paintings to his current abstract collection, they represent an explosion of colors, forms and lines. He invites the viewer to calmly to look at the painting and yet to complete the visual process with a deeper perception that involves both mind and spirit.
Chirinos was born in Venezuela in 1950. His work is inspired by the great feelings he had as a child when he was playing in the park and his memories of his life with his family.
Studies in mathematics and physics led him to teach to support his brothers and sisters but he was always a painter. After he finished supporting them and they became independent, Chirinos became a full-time painter. His work has been exhibited in shows in Venezuela and in the U. S.: Houston, New York, Miami and Washington, D.C.
When he develops a figure, every figure looks right at you, not to the side, projecting happiness. “Number one, the figure is a memory of my life with my family,” said Chirinos. When he comes indoors, the figure is about socializing with grown people and celebrating music and food.
When people meet Chirinos they describe him as low-key but his lively artwork – which represents an explosion of colors — shows who he really is.
