About the event

Fort Talkers: The History of Indigenous Military Service
Indigenous people of the United States have participated in every war or military conflict in our country’s history and have the highest rates of military service in proportion to every other ethnic group in the country. In Virginia, Tribes have a deep history of military service that goes back to before the Revolutionary War.

Join Russell Reed a living history interpreter, Army National Guard veteran, and an Atakapa of Louisiana descendent, for a talk about the complex history of Indigenous military service.
