Sunday Jazz & Blues + Invitational PRO! This jam features special guest NYC drummer PETER DAVENPORT, COLIN JAMES on keyboards & sax, and host KILMO DOOME.
COLIN cut his teeth musically with the Pastorius brothers in Way of the Groove, weekly for six years at the Alligator Alley on Commercial Blvd. Since then he's traveled the world performing, developing into one of the most innovative, creative and in demand players on the scene.
On drums is Peter Davenport from New York City where he's a busy as an educator and in demand session and live player at many of the cities epic Jazz venues.
As always, S. Fla. bass stalwart Kilmo is hosting. The event starts at 1:30 PM. PRO musicians whom we've worked with, or are working locally and/or touring, are invited to sit in. If you're new to our scene introduce yourself and we'll see if we can get you up to play. Either way this is an excellent networking opportunity to meet other players and perhaps hook up some gigs as well...it's happened!
We'll be defying labels, although while Straight Ahead Jazz might be a close description at some moments everything from that to Jazz/Fusion, Funk, Latin grooves, Roots Blues to modern Blues/Rock and more is fair game! Creativity, improvisation and artistic freedom are the theme. Come early for a good seat and a bite to eat. Fat Cats serves great food (the BEST Philly cheese steak or roast pork sandwich in town) along with full liquor and an array of craft draft beers in a really chill environment. Music starts right after the Riverwalk Jazz Brunch, at about 1:30 PM going til 5 PM, maybe later!
