Held at the inspiring Wolverine Farm Publick House, this hands-on class is ideal for artists looking to advance their printmaking skills or explore layered color printing for the first time.

This technique is both challenging and rewarding, as each layer carved removes part of the image—meaning you only get one shot! By the end of the workshop, you'll take home your carved block and a small edition of multi-color prints.

**THIS IS A TWO DAY WORKSHOP and it is important to be present for both days.
Lino Block Reduction is a multi-layered printmaking technique where a single block is carved, printed, and then carved again to create each color layer. As you work through the process, the block is gradually reduced, resulting in a beautifully layered print. In this workshop, I’ll guide you through each step, from carving to inking, allowing you to create a vibrant, multi-colored print by the end of the session.

Info: A quick introduction to Liz Ortiz | Mad Hare Press. Intro Lino Block image transfer, safe carving techniques, and beginning registration.
Info: Re-draw image on tracing paper and begin transferring it to your prepped block.
Info: Begin Carving the areas on your design that you wish to stay white/color of the paper.
Info: Learn how to create a registration template that works for your image orientation. This registration tool will be used for both days.
Info: Once you have your registration tool, learn how to print your first color. This is usually your lightest color
Info: Once you have printed the first color you can begin planning your second color. Start carving away what areas you want to stay your first color.
Info: Start printing your second color using your registration template and print over your first color.
Info: After finishing your second color we will begin clean up to and store our prints, blocks and registration templates for the next day.
Info: Review your block and current state of your design. Begin planning for your third color. Next step is to carve parts of your design that you want to stay your second color.
Info: Begin printing your third color over your prints. Evaluate the color change and pivot if necessary.
Info: Decide your final color, usually a dark color (blue, black, brown, green). Start carving away everything but your design skeleton. This last step should keep only your line work, your outline.
Info: Begin printing your final color using your registration template.
Info: Unveil your creations!
Info: Clean up your work space, collect all recyclable materials, unused materials and ensure you have your block and prints to take home.
