The Wisdom of the Sierra Madre: Apache, Leopold, and the Land Ethic
Hosted by Northern Colorado Bird Alliance
Event Description:
Join Northern Colorado Bird Alliance on Thursday, October 9 for an engaging evening with Dr. Richard Knight, professor of wildlife conservation at Colorado State University, as he presents “The Wisdom of the Sierra Madre: Apache, Leopold, and the Land Ethic.”
Dr. Knight will explore how Aldo Leopold’s experiences in Mexico’s northern Sierra Madre helped shape his foundational land ethic. These trips revealed what Leopold described as land in “perfect aboriginal health,” preserved in part by Indigenous Apache communities who had kept miners, loggers, and ranchers out of the region.
Where: Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Dr.
