✦ About the Tour ✦
Join Docomomo US/Colorado on this walking tour of Mid-Century Modern structures in downtown Fort Collins. The two hour tour will be led by Ron Sladek, and will look at the history and architecture of several Mid-Century Modern buildings in downtown Fort Collins from Mulberry Street to Mountain Avenue.
✦ About the Tour Guide ✦
Firstly, Ron Sladek is a Colorado native whose family has been here since the 1890s. He is the founder and president of Tatanka Historical Associates Inc., a historical research, site documentation, and preservation consulting firm. With a graduate degree in American social and cultural history from the University of Colorado, Sladek has over three decades of experience in historical research, writing, field analysis, consultation, and education. He founded Tatanka Historical Associates in 1992, leveraging his expertise in Western American history, architectural history, and historic preservation. He also served as chair of the Historic Preservation Commission in Fort Collins for five years. Beyond his professional work, Sladek is actively involved in historic preservation, serving on various boards and commissions, including the Colorado Endangered Places Committee and the State Historic Preservation Review Board. He is also co-founder and president of Historic Larimer County, demonstrating his commitment to preservation education and advocacy.
✦ Meeting Location ✦
Meet up by the parking lot of the former Wells Fargo Bank building (shown above). If you aim for the alley on Magnolia Street, half way between S. College Avenue and Mason Street, you'll be pretty much in the right place. The parking lot is just north of the Lucky's parking lot (and you can reach it by driving into the Lucky's parking lot and just continuing north until you reach the lot next to the former bank).
✦ Parking ✦
If you're looking for parking, the lot just across the street, underneath the Target parking lot, is free and open to the public. To enter, you have to be traveling west on Mulberry and turn in towards the Target from there. If you're traveling east on Mulberry, pass the Target and turn left on Remington. You'll then have to drive through the upper level to get to the entrance to the lower level. There's also lots of on-street parking available in this area.
Please note that tours take place rain, snow or shine. If your tour includes an outdoor portion, please dress for the weather. A member of the Docomomo team will contact all attendees directly should a tour be canceled for any reason.
