Join us to learn about embodied carbon in the built environment, which is defined as the cumulative carbon emissions associated with building materials (extraction, manufacture, and transportation) used in a building as well as the emissions associated with erecting the building. We'll discuss how embodied carbon is measured and how it compares with operational carbon emissions, which are associated with the heating, cooling, lighting, and operation of the building. Lastly, we'll cover strategies for reducing embodied emissions through design and innovative materials and techniques. More details to come.
This will be an in-person event in the Community Room at Odell Brewing in Fort Collins. Networking at 6 pm followed by the presentation and Q&A starting at 6:30.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Karen Ramsey
Hi, I’m Karen. I bring over 20 years of experience in Colorado’s construction industry, with a focus on preconstruction services, project planning, and construction management—all grounded in a strong commitment to green building practices.
As both a Certified Passive House Tradesperson and an Ayurveda Health Counselor, I offer a unique perspective that blends building science with wellness. I’m passionate about helping clients create low-carbon, cost-effective, and healthy spaces that contribute to both individual and community well-being.
I believe that truly great environments do more than perform well—they feel good to live and work in. I use tools like BEAM Estimator for embodied carbon analysis, PHPP for energy modeling, and Athena Impact Estimator for Whole-Building Life Cycle Assessment (WBLCA) to deliver detailed, data-driven support for carbon accounting and energy performance.
