About the event

"A Place for Scraps" Public Lecture with the Merchant Tailor Museum
Join Ben Jenkins and Aaron Klass from The Merchant Tailor Museum in Longmont, Colorado for a display and presentation on recycled, repaired, and upcycled textiles of the mid-19th century like those on view in the Avenir Museum’s exhibition Dear Old Coat: Sentiment, Stewardship, Sustainability.

The Merchant Tailor Museum was founded in 2022 by Ben Jenkins to fill a niche in the research and public education spaces. The Museum focuses on the analysis, interpretation, and preservation of men’s garments manufactured between 1845 and 1865. Additionally, the Merchant Tailor Museum aims to highlight the trades and skills utilized in the creation of each garment.
