This interactive workshop invites participants to explore their personal and communal histories and contribute to the preservation of local narratives through the power of spoken word and poetry. Led by acclaimed poet and Juneteenth Experience creative producer Arsimmer McCoy, participants will learn techniques such as imagery, metaphor, and storytelling structures to transform family stories, historical knowledge, and personal experiences into powerful poetic expressions. Through guided writing prompts, participants will create original pieces that honor ancestral resilience, celebrate liberation, and document their lived experiences. The workshop concludes with a voluntary sharing circle, creating a tapestry of voices that reflects our collective journey toward freedom and fosters a sense of community and belonging. The poetry created in this workshop can potentially be showcased in future community events or digital archives, further amplifying the voices and stories of our community. All experience levels welcome; materials provided.
